OBITUARY.
MR. F. J. BENNETT.
An* old resident of Auckland. Mr. Frederick Jabe-z Bennett, passed away on Saturday. Be arrived in Auckland in 1363 by the ship Queen of the Mersey from England. The Maori war was in progress and he saw active service as a member of the New Zealand militia. Three years after his arrival he married Miss Ellen Short-, daughter of the late Mr. John Short, of East Tamaki, and she died about two years ago. The late Mr. Bennett took a great interest in church matters, and for some years was an. elder at St. Andrew's Church and superintendent of the Sunday-school. He was also an elder of St. Stephen's Church, Ponsonby. He was one of the founders of the Blind Institute, in Parnell. He leaves a family of six sons and five daughters.
