LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

MR. FOWLDS AND THE BOER WAR. Sir, Your correspondents " Nemesis " and "E. Richmond" in this morning's issue display remarkable ability in suggesting false impressions. They evidently believe that your readers have very short and faulty memories. Anyone reading their letters would suppose that at the time of the South Atrican war I had been a pro-Boer, and that I had sent a telecram at that time to Sir Henry Camp-bell-Barinermaii. Indeed, " Nemisis " says distinctly that 1 sen', the " cablegram to Loudon at that time." The statement and suggestion are alike untrue. My cablegram to Sir Henry Campbeil-Baniwr-man was sent a year or more after the. close of the South African war, and had nothing whatever to do with tho war. The untrue insinuations of your correspondents compel me to remind you that at tho time of the Boer war I was mm of the speakers at" every one of tho patriotic meetings in Auckland, and I can assert confidently that in proportion, to my means at that time I gave mure time and money to the various movements than any man in Auckland. I will not ask you to afford me space- to reply to the silly meanderings of your correspondents on other subjects, but I d'> expect you to correct the wholly unwarranted aspersion abont my attitude to the Boer war. 'Geo. Fowlds. November 13.
