FISH THROWN AWAY.

CERTAIN KINDS NOT WANTED

PROFESSOR PRINCE'S REPORT."

[BY TELEGEAPH.—OWN COBRASt'ONDEXT.] CrrtiSTCHTTHCH, Wednesday. Tnae fishermen of Bluff condemn as impracticable Professor Prince's suggestions with reference to New Zealand's deep sea fish. Tho professor has recommended that fishermen should use every endeavour to market several varieties of edible fish that •at present are not as popular as cod and flounders. He refers to mold, telescope fish, Jock Stewarts, and so on, and the fishermen allege .that the professor has quite failed to grasp New Zealand conditions.

Over four tons of freshly-caught telescope fish were brought into port by the s.s. Rita, a steam trawler, this morning, and heaved overboard into the sea on arrival • no one would buy the fish. Fish merchants rang up Dunedin, and could not sell a Single fish; m fact, they were informed that a case of telescope fish sent up weeks ago was still in the freezer, as there was no demand.

it is is not an isolated instance. Large quantities of such fish are thrown away so frequently that the fishermen allege that if Professor Prince 'had paid sufficient attention to the evidence of fishermen and merchants, he would never haVe compiled a costly report that is valueless so far as deep sea fish'are concerned.
