CHAMBERS AT VARIANCE.
LEGISLATIVE DISAGREEMENT.
[BY telegraph.— special CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Thursday. As is not unusual at the end of a session, disagreements in regard to certain BiJJs have arisen between the two branches of the Legislature. The Legislative Council has struck out, of the Education Bill the clause inserted by the Education Committee of the House giving power to school committees, without consulting the, boards, to allow schools to be used lor the purpose of moral and religious instruction outside of school hours, thus offering facilities for the adoption of the '• Nelson system." Tho House lias disagreed with this deletion, but the Council has insisted on it, and a conference of managers has been arranged. 'I ho other disagreement is in regard to the Legislative Council Bill, a measure originating in the Upper Chamber. The House has amended this Rill by inserting a provision making women eligible for seats in the Council. Tho latter body, as wa« only to be expected, does not look | with a kindly eye on this addition to its i Bill, and it- urges that before the House | proposed to try the experiment of women 1 legislators in the Cpper Chamber it should ', have Mven them the right to sit in the I House. A motion to this effect has been I rejected by the House. A conference is ' aUo being In Id on this matter.
