GERMANS ANNOUNCE THE FALL OF ANTWERP.
BEEN IN POSSESSION OF CITY SINCE FRIDAY." ONLY A FEW FORTS HELD BY THE BELGIANS. * INHABITANTS REPORTED TO BE CALM. (Received October 11, 5 p.m.) Lokdon, October 10. A Marconi wireless message from Berlin states that it is declared at the German headquarters that Antwerp has been in possession of the Germans since Friday. The Belgian garrison has left the neighbourhood of the forts, only a few of which remain in possession Of the Belgians. The Daily Chronicle publishes a report, which is unconfirmed, that the Germans have entered Antwerp. The inhabitants were calm. According to Amsterdam advices, dated October 9, an official German communique etated that the Germans had seized Fort Broocken, eastward of Antwerp, and were then approaching the inner fort belt. The Belgians between the outer and inner forts had been driven back on Antwerp. The Germans captured in the open field four heavy batteries, 52 field guns, and many machine guns.
