POSITIONS HELD AGAINST OVERWHELMING ODDS.
STUBBORN RESISTANCE OF FRENCH NEAR ARRAS. FIFTEEN GERMAN SPIES TRAPPED IN FACTORY (Received October 11. 6.20 p.M.) London. October 10. Two French divisions of regulars, with a territorial division, held positions at Arras for several days against overwhelming odds, until reinforcements arrived. Though the French losses were heavy, the Germans were soundly beaten. The reinforcements, when nearing Arras, encounted a large force of Germans. A frontal attack failing, a largo force of French wont to the flank and, while the centre was engaged, rushed- the German, trenches and made prisoners of 900 of tho enemy. Fifteen spies, masquerading as Frenchmen, were found in a factory near Lille. They took shelter in tho lofty chimneys, but all were shot off while screaming their allegiance to Franco.
