BOARD OF EDUCATION.
<3* — TEACHERS' APPOINTMENTS. The monthly meeting of the Auckland Education Board was held yesterday morning. Mr. G. J. Garland, the' chairman, presided, and there were also present:, Messrs. A. R. Harris, J. D. McKenzie, G. W. Murray, C. T. Barriball, A. Burns, \V. Auld, and E. C. Pu.'die. 1 On tho recommendation ot the Teachers' Selection Committee, the Mowing appointments were authorised by tuo boara: —.Miss E. Hawkes, teacher, Hinuera school; Miss A. E. Udy, teacher, Papakura Valley No. 2 school; Mr. W. S. Cook, teaclier, Tuhika.ramea school; Mr. M. D. Regan, teacher, Matira and Awaroa schools; Mr. 11. W. Crawiord, assistant master to Epsom school; Miss H. Gledstanes, assistant to Ohaupo school; Miss E. C. Ridling, pupil teacher, from Mount Roskili to Richmond West school; Miss S. A. Ncarv, pupil teacher, from Whangarei to Belmont school; Mr, E. P. York, pupil teacher > to Devonport school; Miss H. W. ; Ballard, pupil teacher, to To Papapa school; Mr. L. T. Maxwell, pupil teacher, to Tauivarunui school; Miss D. Green, pupil teacher, to Hamilton West school; Miss E. Kelly, pupil teacher, to Whangarei school. The following temporary appointments \rere authorised: —Mr. A. E. B. Richardson, temporary assistant master, Waikino school, till end of year; Mrs. K. E. Boscawen, teacher_ Rangiriri school; Miss G. G. McSporrato, assistant to Glenfield school; Miss M. E. T. Soppett, assistant to Hamilton West school; Mr. T. C. . Poverty, relieving teacher to Maungatawhiri Valley school; Miss M. J. Westfield, relieving assistant to Coromandel District High School; Mies L. M., Ward, relieving assistant to Northooto school. It was decided that school committees should be consulted regarding the. proposed appointments of an assistant master to tho Whangarei school, and a female assistant to the Northcote school. On the recommendation of tho Finance Committee, the board decided to refer to tho Technical Committee the report of the Department's inspector of manual and technical instruction in regard to classes held in the Auckland district; to thank the Board of Governors of. the Auckland Grammar School for granting the use of the laboratory at the Girls' Grammar School for the purpose of enabling the board to hold practical science classes for teachers: also to inform the To Kopuru School Committee that the board offered no objection to a dentist examining the teeth of the children at tho To Kopuru school. A number of applications for now schools were received. The following were reerred to the chief inspector: Kauri Falls, Eastport Road, Turoto Road, Waioweka and Wardville Applications from Mapau, Opahi, and Waikumete were deferred; in the case of the last-named, until a site is available. An application for the reopening of an old school at To Pahi was declined.
