(Received September 23, 2.20 a.m.)
London, September 22.
The Daily Chronicle's correspondent at Antwerp'states thai the Germans made three desperate but unsuccessful attempts on Saturday and Sunday to capture the fort of Wallhem, between Malines and Brussels. At the first night operation the Germans, with the heaviest artillery, covered an infantry attack upon the entrenched Belgians. For a short while the issue was doubtful, but when the defenders at the fort realised their danger they devastated the German lines. The attacks were finally repulsed, the enemy suffering the loss of 1000 men.
