FORCES IN CONTACT.
BOTH SIDES ENTRENCHED.
FIGHT ALONG WHOLE LINE.
(Received September 21, 1.45 a.m.)
Paris, September 20.
A communique states that the forces comprising the allies' left have made progress near Noyon, 14 miles north-east of Compiegne, and now hold all the heights on the right bank of the Aisne.
The Germans, apparently, have been reinforced from Lorraine, and still hold the trenches in the centre.
The Crown Prince's army continues to retreat.
The French advance in Lorraine continues methodically.
A later message says that both sides are strongly entrenched, and a battle is proceeding at various points along the whole line, but the result, thus far, has been indecisive, ; Visitors to the battlefields near the Marne state that some of the burial trenches are 150 yds long.
