OFFICER'S ACCOUNT OF THE GERMAN RETREAT.
NO FOOD, BUT PLENTY OF CHAMPAGNE.
"THE BRITISH FOUGHT LIKE DEVILS."

Copenhagen, September 19.
A letter from a German officer states that the Germans on the retreat were without food for twenty-four hours, but had plenty of champagne. " The British fought like devils," the officer states, " but we repulsed the French."
German wounded complain' of severe marching. They state that they had to march never less than 36 miles daily.
Thirty-two wounded German officers, shot in the back by their own men, were recently taken to Brussels.
A German prisoner, aged 15A, declared that all hie schoolfellows over 15 had been mobilised and placed in regiments.
