~ ■- 'O 1 ' ■ ■■■" THAMES DEEP LEVELS. | DEVIATION OF CROSSCUT. GAS AND WATER DIFFICULTY. i [BT TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] | 1 Thames. Saturday. The work of cleaning up the deviation crosscut has been in progress during the week and it has now been cleaned up for a distance of 300 it. Although a considerable amount of gas is still issuing from the face ahead, the air pipes are keeping the crosscut sufficiently clear to enable the work to be continued. The board is, however, now faced with the problem as to whether it will be possible to continue the crosscut to the KuranuiCalodonian shaft, owing to the danger wb'.ch exists of a sudden influx of water and gas, as the face approaches nearer to i the main slide. A conference of the 1 Advisory Committee is, therefore, to be hold next week to consider this question and to decide on the best and safest means of completing the work. It is probable now that the Caledonian-Kuranui i Company may agree to the crosscut be I ing deviated more to the left so as 'to keep a safe distance away from the I slide. If this plan is adopted there j should be no further serious difficulty ' in, completing the crosscut. The distance to be driven from the present face ;to the point of termination lis about 160 ft, 52ft of which is through the Waiofcahi ground and the remainder through the -Caledonian, but if the deviation is decided as above, then the disI tance will be greater, as it would bo j necessary to come back about 200 ft from ! the face and strike off to the left, WAIOTAHI. [in TELEGRAPH.- CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. The erection of the new winding plant at the main shaft is now completed and ' work in the mine will be resumed during i next week. The plan of future opera- ' tions in the mine has not yet been de- ; finitely settled, but. the manager, Mr. I Warne, has submitted a scheme for future I operations to the directors, who have i arranged to visit the mine in the early 1 part of the week to consult with him and decide as to the course to be adopted. WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION. The proposal to increase the remunera- j tion of the directors of the Wa.ihi Grand ; Junction Company is to be submitted to i shareholders at the annual meeting to ■ be held next October. The proposal is that the remuneration should be increased : i from £600 to £750, this Bum to be divided , I between the first four directors in such j , proportion as they shall determine. Should j I additional directors be appointed it is ! j proposed that the sum of £750 should be increased by £150 for each additional director.
