NEW SYLVIA.

HALF-YEARLY REPORT.

In their report on the operations of the New Sylvia Gold Mining Company for the half-year ended June 30. the directors state that the quantity of ore treated for the period was 4058 tons, yielding bullion to the value of £5810 8s 10d, including value of concentrates on hand, as against 5263 tons for £6377 4s lid treated lor the previous half-year. A subsidiary report submitted by the mine manager showed that the development in the No. 5 (low level) during the past month had proved that the No. 1 main reef lived down, a .nd that it was a well denned large reef of very good quality. The directors, therefore, with confidence congratulated the shareholders on possessing a mine that tin the near future should obtain highly payable returns. Reporting for last week the manager states that the winze at the No. 4 level is down 344 ft. The reef u of large size, is heavily mineralised, and shows good values. The No. 5 level has been, carried along 530 ft from the crosscut. The reef .is wider than tho drive. The hanging wall, 2ft wide, shows good values and the rest of the reef is payable.

NEW WAITAIA. The manager of the New Waitaia mine, Kuaotunu, reports that in the stopee above the intermediate level the reef is from 9in to 12in wide, the ore at the south end being somewhat whiter and poorer than usual. The north drive, from the continuation of the east crosscut, where the true reef was picked up, is '.n 59ft. The reef has now taken a decided turn north, and is 12in to 15in wide near the floor. The last stone broken out showed strong blotches of fairly coarse gold well distributed throughout. MONOWAI. The manager of the Monowai mine, : omo. reports that the north block in the No. 4 level has now been stoped to a height of 75ft. The lode is now exposed for an average width of 18in and appears to be more defined.
