GERMANS ATTACK BRITISH IN GREAT STRENGTH,
VERY HEAVY LOSSES SUSTAINED BY ENEMY.
FORTY MEN LEFT OF WHOLE DIVISION. (Hcccivcd August 30, 5.5 p.m.) London, August 29. The Prime Minister informed the House of Commons to-day that Field-Marshal Sir John French had reported to him that during the fighting in Belgium on Wednesday, the British were exposed to the attack of live. Gorman army corps, two cavalry divisions, and a reserve corps. The British second corps bore the brunt of the cavalry attack- Very heavy losses were inflicted on the enemy by the third army corps, under General Smith-Dorricn, Many German prisoners have arrived at Paris. A German officer, pointing to forty soldiers, said, "That's all remaining of a whole division.'' Th; mini strength of a German army corps is 41,000 men and 144 guns. A German cavalry «.'l\: . comprises 4800 men, and an infantry division 16,500.
