GERMANS SAID TO HAVE INVADED NORTHERN FRANCE.
DESPERATE EFFORT TO STRIKE AT PARIS. (Received Aoguet 28, 8,40 p.m.)
London, August 27. The Press Burea.u reports that the British troops now occupy & strong line to meet the German advance, supported by the French on both flanks. The London Times, in a leader, saysr-'Wo may be certain that a battle is now raging upon a lino further south than was supposed. The Germans have successfully invaded Northern France, sacrificing their troops in a desperate effort to strike swiftly and irresistibly at Paris."
The first batch of the wounded from Hons arrived at Folkstone, and were conveyed to tho Shorncliffe Hospital. Eighty Belgian military cyclists, survivors of 240 who were cut up by the Germans at Namur, have also arrived at Shorncliffe to recuperate before returning,
