PERSONAL ITEMS.

Mr. George Elliot was a passenger to Wellington by yesterday's noon express. Mr. O. Nicholson, Mayor of Mount Eden, left Auckland for Wellington by yesterday's noon express. Dr. Elliott and Dr. Gibbes, of Wellington, were passengers from the South by yesterday alternoon's Main Trunk train. Sir. J. G. Moore, honorary representative of the Government of New Zealand in Buenos Aires, will visit New Zealand in September. Captain Keenan, of the headquarters defence staff, who has been on a visit to Auckland, left for Wellington by the Main Trunk train last evening. Mr. G. J. Garland, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, who has beon on a brief visit to Wellington, left there on his return to Auckland last evening. Mr. J. E. Wilson, Mayor of New Ply. mouth, and Mrs. Wilson, who have been staying at the Star Hotel, left Auckland yesterday morning for New Plymouth. Mr. G. Selwyn Goldsbro', who has been attending a meeting of the Architects' Registration Board, in Wellington, returned to Auckland by tho Main Trunk .yesterday morning. Mr. James Nixon, of Onchunga, died yesterday in his 82nd year. The deceased arrived in New Zealand in 1848, in the ship Ranloy. He participated in the gold rushes on the West Coast, and at the Thames. He leaves a widow, four sons. 19 grandchildren, and five greatgrandchildren. Mr. Nixon was married 62 years ago on the site of the house in which he died. One son, Mr. Adam Nixon, is a member of the Devonport Borough Council.

Mrs. Johanna Fernandez, one of Auckland's early settlers, died at her residence, Nugent Street, yesterday. Mrs. Fernandez, who was in her 60th year, arrived in Auckland by the ship Ida Zeigler nearly fifty years ago, and had resided in Auckland ever since. She was an active Church worker, and took great interest in works of charity. Mrs. Fernandez is survived by her husband, Mr. Andrew Fernandez, and a family of eight, including Mr. A. J. Fernandez, Mrs. W. J. Vaughan, Mrs. A. J. Dickinson, and Mrs. Frederick Knight, all of whom are resident in Auckland.
