The monthly meeting: of the Huatly Bond Board was h'?lJ on Saturday; present, sle?srs. J. P. Bailey (chairman), L, B. Karris, jim, W. F. Parker, W. D. Thompson, and the clerk, Mr. F. Harris.

M.P.. stated that the Minister fcrr Po.blic Works had acjreed to gr&nt £300 as a £ for £ subsidy on t'le work to be done on the Taupiri Gorge Road, and a&l;ed the board to inform him whether tlw board was prepared to accept the jjrant on the subsidy basis. Advice from the Department stated that this grant could only be made as a subsidy. The board was unanimously of opinion that a grant on a subsidy basis would not accomplish the end d'.iired.

The tender of Mr. S. Phair of. £63 was accented for formation ' work on the Mangntea Road, ami that of Mr. J. W. Hill, at 8s per chain, for the formation of the Great South Road at Obinewai. •
Accounts totalling £129 17s were passed for payment. -A jr.-sting of Opposition supporrer3 was Jielu in the Miners' Ball-on Monday night. ' Mr. J. P. Bailey presiding o'er a good attendance. It was unanimously resolved to fdrm a society, to be known as the Hantly Liberal Association, ami the following officers were elected:—President, Mr. J. P. Bailey; vice-presidents. Dr. 'J. C. M''«!iarmid and Mr. F. Hatris; secretary, Mr. G. A. James. It Tra- 1 decided to ask Sir Joseph Ward to deliver an address at a Liberal rally..
A meeting 0 the trustees of tie Huntly School of Mines was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. J. Fletcher presiding. It was /'-jcidecl that the erection of the school should be carried out according to the original specifications, and that any structural alterations that might be deemed necessary c-i/uld be considered when the builder, 'Mr. J. T. Benson, lad completed hi* contract. ' , On Monday the f rst locomotive crossed the nevr bridge, aid on Tuesday it wan employed in taking coal and. other material wosg tho river to ' the point where such were required. The employment of this locomotive will greatly facilitate the work of railway construction, and will lead to much economy of time and labour.
The erection of tho new hall at Ohimv wai ha 3 almost reached completion.
WAIDKU.
FOOTBALL CLUB'S SOCIAL.
A very successful social was held on Thursday evening by tho football club. During the evening the president of the WaiuL-u Union, Mr. R! T. R«id, presented the caps ;o the Waiuku team, the champions of last season, and congratulated them on their success. Mr. C. R. Barribail (captain), in responding for the team, thanked Mr. Reid for donating the caps for competition, stating that the union was very fortunate in having so enthusiastic a president. The dance music was supplied bv Mrs. E. C. Barriball, and Mr. H. Webster. The district, is showing signs of process, building being brisk. Several substantial dwf!lin?s are in the course of erection while contracts for a horfe bazaar and a large brick building for club rooms have been let, It is stated that the Bank of New Zealand is considering the question of opening a branch here. A consignment of stud sheep has been pent to Australia by Messrs. C. T. and Eber Barriball, L. F. Skakespear, and A. J. Kidd.

POLITICAL REFORM LEAGUE.
The annual meeting of the Waihi branch of the New Zealand. Political Inform League was held on Monday evening, Mr. D. G. Saunders, president, occupying the chair. Messrs. A. A. Paape, Dominion organiser of the Reform Party, and J. Clark, the Reform candidate for the Ohmemnri seat, were among those present. In the course of his address the chairman repelled a large increase iv. the membership. From the financial standpoint the affairs of the branch were in a very satisfactory state. The reception accorded the Prime Minister and his colleague, he said, had indicated in no uncertain wanner that the Government would have very solid support in this electorate. Mr. Paape, addressing the meeting,gave a general outline of the working of the league, in other centres, and stated that the prospects for the success for the Government were most encouraging. Ho also stated that before the election took place the Hon. A. L. Herdman, Minister lor Justice, would visit the electorate. . The election of officers resulted as tol-ler-President, Mr. D. G. Saunders; vice-presidents, Blears J. Newdick and V H Potter; committee, Messrs. W. Comes; L. Murphy, B. Newtek, H. Turner C. Flett, R. Farrell, P. Smeaton, 1Tucker, J. Dodd, and W. Gramme; secre--2? and treasurer. Mr. S. WAul* Messrs. S. Walmsley and N. McEobio were appointed delegates to attend the Annual conference of tho league to be WW fa W#c,gton in July..
