AUCKLAND SAILORS' HOME.

ANNUAL MEETING AND REPORT.

The year ending March 31, 1914, has not been a remarkably successful one for the Auckland Sailors' Homo The Maori epidemic and the strike both affected the home adversely, but, in spite of these the operations of tho institution havo been carried on quietly and unostentatiously, much to the benefit of seaJarors visiting this port. The presentation of some spare literature to the library by tho City Council has been much appreciated, while the billiard table, acquired through the liberality of merchants and friends, has proved to be a decided asset. The work done by the British and Foreign Sailors' Mission and by the Flying Angel Mission has been very satisfactory, but the Mission Hall requires some muchneeded improvement in the way of brightening its interior, including a better method of'lighting, and in the way of removal of the roof covering. The council feels that should it be necessary to appeal to the public for assistance, its appeal will not be in vain. At the annual meeting, held last night, the year's report and balam e-sheot were adopted. Tho following officers were then elected: —President, Captain E. J. Thomas; vice-president, Mr. H. Symons; I honorary surgeon, Dr. D. N. W. .Murray: ! council," Messrs. E. I'hipps (retiring president) P. J. Nerheny, E. H. Potter, C. Little' J. Trevethick, J. Ma gee, and T. Harle Giles. Votes of thanks to all members of the. staff, officers, and others connected with tho work of the institution having been passed, a resolution of condolence with Mr. E. H. Potter in his reosnt bereavement, was carried, all standing as a mark of respect..
