SENSATION AT NAUMAI
MAN ARMED WITH A STICK,
RESIDENTS FLY IN ALARM.
CONSTABLE MAKES AN ARREST.
[BY TELEGRAPH,— CORHE.SPONnK.VrJ Dargaville, Sunday. A sensation was caused at the Naumai sawmill settlement on Friday by an apparently demented man armed with a stick. The man invaded tho boai'dinghouso and drovo the inmates out of doors, and than visited the post ofHco and caused tho postmistress to beat a hasty retreat, Ho then entered the sleeping-quarters of tho mill workmen and turned things topsy tuny. Tho police were telephoned (or, and Constable Montgomery proceeded in a launch and arrested a young man, who gave his namo as James Laing. He bore on his throat minor wounds, believed to have been caused by a blunt knife, and had previously stated that he would attempt to commit suicide. He was brought to Dareaville, and appeared yesterday at the Police Court, when lie was remanded until Tuesday for medical attention. Laing recently arrived from Auckland, and previous to his arrest bad been drinking heavily,
