ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
MAORI YOUTH CHARGED. LOSS OF FAMILY ESTATES. PROSPECTIVE WEALTH VANISHES. [HI TEUQE.CPH.— CORBESPONDENT.] WANGAXtfi, Friday- , A Mioai youth, named Basil Murray, appeared at the Police Court this morning j charged with attempting to commit suicide. The police Mated that the accused had for some time past been subject to ridicule by other Maoris because a relative of his has been disposing of the family estates I and spending tho money. Tho loss of •. this prospective wealth ana the jibes (A his companions had had each an effect j on Murray, that last evening ho snatched op a receiver, and pressing it to the region pi his heart pulled the trigger. Luckily the cartridge was a blank one.
Mr. Hinango said that the youth had a good character, and ho undertook to see that the family, matters over- which ho w&s-worried were adjusted. The accused Wiij convicted and discharged.
