LAW STUDENTS' SOCIETY.
Tin: fust of a series of competitions, bold under the auspices of tho Auckland I'niversitv Law Sttidents' Society, took placo in the Choral Hall last evening. Mr. 1). C. Chalmers, president of the society, occupied tbo cliair., and Mr, J. \V. Stewart, with the assistance of the chairman, anted as ijidge. Two cases involving intricate points of law were stated for argument, the chief speakers being Messrs. H. Mcikle. F. J. Cox. L. Phillips, and E. Blnmpied. There was a large attendance of law student?, all ot whom displayed a keen interest in tho arguments acid need oy counsel, and the majority of whom took part in the discussion" on the cases, Mr. Stewart delivered an interesting and instructive judgment, and congratulated tho society on the able manner in which eounsel conducted their cases, and on the tare in preparation which their efforts displayed. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the judges.
