HOURS OF WORK AND PAY.
EMPLOYERS' ?J'OPOSALS.
Particulars of the employers' counterproposals in the industrial dispute betweon bioeraph operators and employers in Auckland picture theatres, which is set down for hearing to-day by the concilation commissioner (Mr. T. Harle Giles), wero furnished last evening.
The employers propose a seven-hour (lay (42 hours per week) for operators in continuous picture theatres. The operators' demands included a six-hour day. In addition, it is proposed by tho employers that the operators' work shall inclndo the care of electrical apparatus. The proposed rate of pay for operators in the continuous theatres is £)4 per week for first operators and £3 10s per week for second operators, as compared with the operators' claim for a watre of £6 IDs and £6 per week. At evenine entertainments it is proposod that the remuneration shall be £3 10s per week (comprising six performances and one matinee). Tho operators in these theatres ask for £4 10s per week and 10s extra for each matinee. There is agreement regarding the demand for £4 10s per week for operators touring, and £5 per week for a travelling worker, combining the duties of operator and engineer. The proposal for overtime is 3s per hour, just half the amount demanded, and the employers do not nroposf to pay the operators when on holiday. The latter ask for a fortnight's holidav each year on full pay.
