The indications point to an attempt, to burn the remains. No clue to the crime has yet been obtained.

INDUSTRIAL DIFFERENCES.

On appeal by the master builders, the Arbitration Court has refused tbo carpenters' demand for a reduction in working hours to 44 a week, and also declined to grant preference to unionists.

Men employed in the building trades are generally dissatisfied with the award, and meetings have been called to review the position. Similar dissatisfaction exists in Melbourne, where a strike is talked of.

At the instance of Mr. Estell (State Minister for Labour) 800 summonses have been issued against miners for refusing to work the afternoon shift. They are called upon to show cause why a penalty of £50 each should not be imposed for participating in the strike.

MEAT TRUST MENACE.

Giving evidence yesterday before tbo Meat Commission, the heads of several firms denied making any arrangements for shipping meat to America. One stated that America had ceased to export meat, which meant that Australia was supplying markets previously supplied "by the United States.

The representative of another large firm admitted shipping meat to American firms. For six months the operations of the company had no apparent effect on. the market, but when they had been at work some time the market must bo affected.

The value of the mineral output of Queensland during 1913 decreased by £317,000. The report stages that the decline of the gold yield is serious, and in the absence of fresh discoveries will probably continue.
