London, June 24. In the House of Commons yesterday, Mr. Hayes Fisher (Unionist M.P. for Fulham) moved an amendment to the Finance Bill regretting that it did not provide relief for local authorities.
The debate waa adjourned,
The Labour Party has decided not to vote for the Finance Bill. It is understood that the party is gravely dissatisfied with the Government yielding to a pressure of a section of its supporters, and considers that the money saved should have been used to remit food taxation rather than relieving the higher classes of income tax payers.
The party is disposed to support Mr. Hayes Fisher's amendment, but for its reference to land taxation.
The abandonment of the increased tax produced confusion in the city among companies and banks which had already deducted the tax from dividends and annuities. They have now been forced to readjust their books.
Several Liberals threaten to vote agaiast the Government as a protest for the dropping of the grants to local authorities during the current year.
