A statement as; to. the drainage : works was made by the engineer (Mr, W E. V,-.;"'-■ ;.'■', :- An.inquiry, as to the progress of work on the/Grey Lynn sewer was made by Mr. G. Baildon. . , -The enginodr stated that he made an inspection of tyie sewer a; Grey Lynn on ■Friday last, and passed the work. He immediately gave, "instructions for the. Grey LynD'sWer to be.connected up at Cox's Creek, and; this.'...been done. It was Mffliblefoi ''•Arphhfll' to be connected up with the sewerage system also. Sanitary connections could now be made with the 6ewerago system practically all over the City of/Auckland. Point Chevalier and portions' of Mount, Albert -aid Mount Eden were:the only parts which were not yet ready ,;jpr, reticulation,,: : • ■;. The Deputy-Mayor said he thought the statement made by the engineer was most important. Such a stgte of affairs had been looked forward ;.to. keenly by memberg of the City Council. They hoped that the. result .of approaching completion of the work would prove beneficial to tho whole of the city < and suburbs. Mr. /BaHdon; agreed with Mr. Court. It 1 would be extremely gratifying to residents of' Grey Lynn to know that they could now connect with the, drainage system. Mr. Bush said he was very pleased himself to have made the announcement. It had lifted a great load .of anxiety off his mind. 5 It was a 'coincidence that he was able to make such a statement' on the eighth anniversary of his landing to Auckland. ■„ ..:;■ ■J' . Mr. Mackay: You have done a great work, anyway;' (Hear, hear.) The ensrineerJ'epertGd that the fences on the Hobson-Bay,6ewer'had been com: pleted,. and.he suggested that keys be supplied to approved persons having lesritis; mate cause, to use. the sewer, the board to . make a charge of '6s per annum, the keys ; to,remain "-the property_of the-board. . It was decided to adopt the suggestion.,
