AT THE PALACE GATE.
SUFFRAGETTES IN CHAINS. GROWING RESENTMENT. THE GOSPEL OF FIRE. By Tclograph—Pross Association-Copyright, (Received Juno 3, 10.20 p.m.) v London, Juno 3. Yesterday, three young suffragettes chained themselves to the main gate of Buckingham Palace. The chains were severed after some trouble, and the women were arrested. Three men were charged yesterday with attempting to duck suffragettes in a pond. The magistrate discharged them with a . caution without hearing their defence, rerrvrking that it was impossible- to shut one's eyes to the fact that the suffragettes' behaviour had created strong resentment and disgust. During the hearing of another case against two suffragettes, one of the prisoners continuously interrupted the magistrate, and warned him that his house would be burned. The police produced a letter purporting to be signed by a wellknown suffragette. In this it was stated that a lady's secretary planned to burn her mistress's house in revenge for non-militancy. The house was subsequently burned. The burning of Wargrave Church has aroused intense indignation. Three exploded bombs were found amid the ruins..
One well-known suffragette denounces society leaders for entertaining Cabinet Ministers, and women for harbouring them, and says such people should be treated by the suffragettes as traitors to their sex.
