MINING NEWS.
WATCHMAN.
The manager of the Watchman mine, ■Thames, reports that (ho ore taken from tho stapes in the No. 4 rise is heavily charged with sulphides and occasionally shows gold. The reef varies in aizo from 2ft to 4ft wide. Men were engaged in breaking down ore from the City of Dunedin reef in the main level. The reef is 9ft wide, 6ft of the footwall being practically free, from mullock, and the ore has shown gold freely. A crosscut was started 20ft north of the No. 4 rise and at the floor of tho main level for the purpose _of proving the extent of tho jjiiartz in the footwall. A distance of lift was driven. The first 4ft were mado up with a seam of clay a few inches '•flick and sandstone and quartz stringers. The last 4ft exposed quartz in which gold could be freely seen.
WAIHI WARDEN'S COURT. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] Waihi, Tuesday. > A sitting of the Warden's Court was held to-day. before Mr. F. J. Burgess, warden. Application was made for pro- ] tection of the Empire Nog. 1, 2, and 3 | special quartz claims. Mr. W. M. Jackson, who appeared for the applicant, asked for an adjournment on the ground that tho business was in the hands o' Mr. J. W. Walker, who had been in' London for some time, but was now on his way out to New Zealand. The adjournment was granted until July 7. An application was made by James Webb Blackmail for protection of the Prido of Waihi special claim. Mr. W. E. Porritt, who appeared for tho applicant,, explained that this claim was included in the group for which protection was granted last Court day. The applU cation was granted.
WAIOTAHI. , During the past week work in tho Waiotahi mine, Thames, has been confined to completing the shaft from the No. 8 level! down to the top of the rise. A fresh contract has been let to complete the shaft to the 1000 ft level. Tho distance to bo completed is 92ft, and the work should bo accomplished in from four to five weeks.
DOMINION. The east crosscut in the Dominion mine, Karangahake, is along 1324 ft. The fault has been passed through and the ground timbered up. Good roof country is now being penetrated. The country is heavily mineralised, and has numerous quartz veins traversing it. A heavy flow of water is issuing from the face.
KJJRANUI. The manager of the Kuranui mine, Thames, reporting for the past week states that 12ft was driven on the new reef. The ouartz broken down is carrying an excellent clar of bright minerals.
