Five males arrested on minor charges ■were the only occupants of the police cells last night.
A voung man, P. Millar, aged 23 years, died'at Naseby Hospital from infantile paralysis, says a Dunedin telegram.
A petition in bankruptcy lias been hied by Elizabeth Josephine Darby, boardinghouse keeper, of Grafton Road, Auckland. The first meeting of creditors will be held on Friday, at 2.50 p.m.
The following was the state of His Majesty's Prison, Auckland, for the week ending"April 25:—On remand, 5 males, 1 female; awaiting trial, 15 . males; life, 3 males; hard labour, 244 males, 15 females ; imprisonment, 2 males; default of bail, 3 males; debtors, 1 male; received during the week, 27 males, 3 females; discharged, 21 males, 4 females; total in prison. 273 maies, 16 females. , The chairman of the Canterbury College Board of Governors announced yesterday that the Government intended, m the future, to appoint the engineers required for the Public Works Department from the graduates of the school of engineering established in connection with Canterbury College.— Association.
