WAR REDUCES PRODUCTION.

MARKETS FOR NEW ZEALAND. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] Gisboune, Monday. Speaking to a reporter to-day, Mr. W. A. Beddce, Canadian Trade Commissioner, expressed an interesting opinion regarding the effect the Mexican war is likely to have on the agricultural pursuits in the United States. "Of course," he remarked, "1 don't wish to talk war; but a country like the United States, which has not got a large standing army, must draw upon the rural and agricultural population for its soldiers, and that will take away many agricultural workers and thus restrict production. 'then countries such as New Zealand will line! a better market in the SUtcs for their produce."
