CONFERENCE OF SHEARERS.
PREPARATIONS FOR ANNUAL MEETING. [AY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION*.] Wellington', Monday. The annual shearers' conference will open in Wellington on Tuesday, May 12, and it will probably last five or six days. The delegates who have been elected by ballot to attend the proceedings are: Messrs. Wm. Boon (Christchurch), W. E. Bell (Christchnrch), Charles Grayndler (Wood ville), John Townsend (Blenheim), C. R. Johnston (Ashburton), W. T. Adair (Dunedin), and Wm, McLennann. As no shed hands were nominated as delegates and, consequently, none were elected, the executive deemed it necessary; in view of the fact that the shed hands' agreement is to be considered, to appoint Messrs. J. Keogh (Kurow) and James Morgan (Gisborne) as the shed hands' representatives at the conference.
Among the remits from the various sheds are some dealing with the organisers and their expenses. The contract shearing system of balloting, the appointment of officials, the penalty concerning Sunday shearing, and general questions affecting shearing will also be discussed. The whole of the remits sent in will be open for the perusal of delegates when the conference opens. There is a possibility that a conference will be held between the the shearers' delegates and the Sheepowners' Federation.
