MOVEMENTS OF .NATIVES. ' 'ACTIVE ' IN WAIKATO. (From the HEEALD of April 27, 1864.) TRUST, April 26.— natives are again, at the Waikato country, they made the. move to Tauranga only to gain time, knowing that' while they could -cut across the country without any hindrance, the troops, with all the ponderous machinery, attached to an army, must, at .great expense and time, he moved to Auckland, and thence shipped to the East Coast, Their object accomplished, they < are back again, throwing up fresh positions, preferring that the troops should depend Oil the Land Transport Corps for their supplies this winter to the quick means of transport, that shipping goods from Auckland to the East Coast would afford them. In tho first case small bodies of natives creeping back can harm the troops by , attacking the convovs, etc.. by tho Other ] they would have no such opportunity; again, with the winter rains, the Waikato River and its branches, owing to its strength and impetuous flow of the waters, will often prevent steamers making headway for days together, and force, the slow ( and necessary attendant to an army, the Land Transport Corps, to be in full force. The natives know and consider all these circumstances.
