ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES

On Saturday morning the tracks were in splendid order after the rain and the tand, outer grass, tan, 2-year-old tracks, hurdles and steeplechase courses were occupied by trainers. Goldsize ran a mile and a half on the grass, the first round taking lm ss. Goldsize finished very well and promises to be in excellent fettle at Easter.

Tangiwai ( Opposition, and Cloy were associated in a 6 furlong sprint, finishing in that order in lm IPs. Kakama, not all out, bettered this time by 2-5 of a second. Waiorcwa defeated Cast, ilia over five furlongs covered in lm 4 3-:js, and Delenda and Hadj shaped well in a three furlong sprint. Goldfire easily defeated Maui Nina over five furlongs in lm 5 3 ss, and Soultikoff j beat Tragedy King over six furlongs in. lm 19 2-ss. | La Reina, Bleriot and Merry Roe finished in that order at the end of a five furlong sprint which took lm 3 4-ss, and Haku covered six furlongs in lm 19 3-ss. (9 Jack Delaval, who is fancied in some quarters for the Easter Handicap, ran seven furlongs in Ira 32 4-ss, but was not asked to do his best. The juveniles, Mullingar and Troy, ran four furlongs in 50 2-ss, the former having most to say at the finish. Royal Irish end Lady Penury took 2-5 of a second longer for a similar journey. S. Lindsay had to hustle Christmas Rose along to cover four furlongs in 50 3-ss, but Ixdv Alicia, who appears to bo on the verge of striking form, had little difficulty in leaving six furlongs behind in lm 19 2-ss. Ruse de Guerre, who has been a big disappointment ninco her win at Takapuna as a two-year-old, skipped over four furlongs in 50 2-ss, while others to do useful work were Signo, Ascot, Mat&kana, Bedford. Lady Mabel, Tiki Tapu, and Coronation. Bluestone, who is looking real well, started. well in a sprint, as did Tact and ■ Prince Scult, who worked in company. Wee O.ga and Devastation were worked on the tan, tho latter moving very short.

There was some interesting schooling work. Dogger Bank (Tilsley), First Wairiki. (Roach), Fleet Arrow (J. Brady) and Providence (O'Connor), after jumping six of the schooling finished in that order, while Mernmax (Viae), Golden Grain (Adolph) and Vestal (l'ercival) went a similar journey.

Hautere (Tilsley), Hauora (Rae) and Ruffv (Percival) set out for a run over the big fences. Hautere at once set a merry pace, and after the sod wall, double, stone wall 'and tho old water jump had been negotiated, Hautere had Iris companions in dire trouble Hautere came to grief at the old water jump, but on being Temouuted, covered the remaining portion of the journey in good style. Hautere finished up his task in good style, while Rnffy, who started well for a novice, pulled up at the stone wall. Training operations yesterday were of an interesting nature, several Easter Handicap candidates being seen out. Goldsize ran 12 furlongs in fine style, the lust nine being covered in the good time of lm 535. Kakama moved nicely in covering six furlongs on the grass in lm 17 4-ss. Tact and King Soult were not looking for time in a six-furlong sprint on tho grass, but in a set-to up the straight Tragedy King defeated Soultikoff by a head. Jack Delaval. looking well, left a mile behind in lm 48 4-ss, and Royal Irish also pleased. Tanp vai, who is fancied in some quarters for tho Easter Handicap, easily disposed jvs Opposition and Brookfield in a run to the post from the six-furlong disc. Tangiwai is looking really well, and no fault can be found with the training tasks.

Waiorerwa and the two-year-old Castalia •were associated in a four-furlong sprint on the grass, the two-year-old finishing in the rear. Other youngsters, in Delenda, Hadj, and the Marble Arch colt Keystone, finished in the order written after a short sprint, •while Mullingar, who is looking well after his -respite, shaped well in a f<?M'furlong spin. Harwell was a trifle sore at the conclusion of a seven-furlong spin, as was Devastation, who was given a light task. Bleriot (Trigger), Merry Roe (Kennedy), and La Beina (S. Lindsay) ran round the tan in that order in lm st> 2-ss. Horses that were set various tasks were Bedford, Signo, Matawerewere, Cloudy Dawn, Monathol, Lady Penury, Graduate, First Wairiki, Manukau, Bluestone, Dogger Bank, Miss Livonia, Merrimax, Goldfire, Haku, Maui Nina. Maxwell, Self, Matakana, Kitty Bellairs, Carnation, Christmas Rose. Lady Alicia, and The Glad Eye. The three last-mentioned equines appear to be very fit. There was quite an array of jumpers in action yesterday at headquarters. Dandy Breeze (Tuichen) cleared a hurdle and Ihen flew the big country in really fine ftyle. Dandy Breeze did not stay well on the flat, but should be seen to advantage over the fences. Captain Jack and Lady Sabretache were associated in a spin over the big fences. The former ran round the wing of the first obstacle of the double and got rid of his rider (Rae), who, however, quickly remounted. Captain Jack again ran off, and his display was by no means a pleasing one. The half-brother to Paritutu, with Anderton in the saddle, was sent over the pony hurdles. He jumped very carefully; but is evidently improving. Barbwire, who has yet to make his debut over the fences, shaped well for a novice, and may turn out useful.
