ONE-TREE HILL AFFAIRS.
Tm? One-tree Hill Road Board met last night, when there were present: —Messrs. E. A. Craig (chairman), T. H. Rowe, H. Shrewsbury, H. Dobbie, and J. Dykes. The contractors for the Oranga roads in the One-tree Hill road —which, ■ have been under construction for the past 18 months—reported that the roads were now completed. The following roads are on the estate : —Oranga Road, Rawhiti Road, Waitangi Road, Namata Road, Paihia Road, Horotuku Road,' Nikau Road, and Tawhiti Road. The total length of roads is three miles, and the estimated cost about £12,000. The engineer reported that the work had entailed much rock excavation, and that a very creditable job had been made with the formation and metalling. He recommended that the roads be taken over by the board, subject to certain deposits in respect of the share of the cost of rolling paths, putting in extra cesspits, pipes", opening up fissured reck, tarring and sanding paths, etc., the total of such depositsbeing £608 6s Bd. The cost of tarring, and sanding of 35,200 square yards of foot- ! path was estimated at £1026 13s 4d. lb was agreed that the roads be taken over, subject to the conditions mentioned in the engineer's report. A letter was received from Dr. Makgill, in reference to the matter of providing a sanitary depot for the district, Dr. Makgill stated that it was a difficult matter to find a suitable site, in view of the' unwillingness of owners to -let land for the purpose. It was imperative that the board should act at once in the matter, and he suggested that the best solution of the difficulty would be to try and arrange with tie neighbouring board of Epsom, (which was in a similar difficulty) to provide a conjoint dumping station' to connect with the sewer—a scheme which, would lessen the cost and avoid having two such places in close proximity. ft was arranged that the chairman should, in company with Mr. W. R. Bloomfield (chairman of the Epsom Board), „ wait upon Mr. W. E. Bust) (drainage engineer) and inquire as to a suitable site ' for a dumping station. ;.,, - It was agreed' to pay Mr. H. Mortohi £50 as compensation for a strip of 'land acquired by the board from him, iavM», purpose of straightening Cornwall Park Avenue, and making it a 66ft road
