POWER-BOAT RACING.
THE BRETT CUP.
Perhaps the most important race yet run under the auspices of the New Zealand Power-boat Association will be decided on Saturday, March 28, when the Brett Cup will be competed for. The cup is a handsome trophy, valued at 25gns, and the fact that it is to be won outright will, no doubt, instil additional keenness into the competitors. The course will be from off King's Wharf, channel side of the red buoy, between the luminous buoys, passing Rangitoto beacon on the starboard side direct to Mansion House Bay, Kawau, rounding the mark boat at the entrance, and finishing between two mark buoys. The race will start at 1 p.m., and handicaps will be given at the start. All competing launches must be registered in the association, fly the association's burgee or championship pennants, and have their numbers displayed on both sides. All competitors must have competed in one or more of the association's races, and all launches must comply with the definition of a bona-fide cruiser. The ordinary cruising outfit and dinghy are to be carried. In the event of bad weather, the commodore and Mr. Brett will decide whether or not the race is to be postponed, and the committee of the day will have power to disqualify any boat for what it considers deliberate inconsistent running. Entries will be received from this evening until 9 p.m. on Monday next, and all competitors are required to attend in person in order to revise their registration forms, and bring them up to date. In addition to the cup, seven other trophies will be involved in the race.
