MENACE TO AUSTRIA.
SCOPE OF THE WAR TAX
Berlin, March 14.
The G«rmania alleges that the Russian preparations are directed against Austria.
In a semi-official announcement, the Norddeutscher Allgemeine Zeitung ridicules the Russian threats, and states that it does not believe such discussions will disturb the Russo-German friendship.
The German-American Commercial Union has protested to the Government against the imposition -of the new war tax upon Americans resident in Germany.
The law provides that all persons with an annual income over £150,000, must pay an extra tax of a-half per cent. Several European Powers intend to protest jointly against such a tax.
