SHOW AT WHITFORD.

A highly successful function took place at Whitford on Thursday, when the first annual fruit, flower, and vegetable show was held. The hall was crowded with visitors and residents, and the numerous exhibits came in for a large share of praise. Owing to the dry season the flowers wore not numerous, but were of a high order of excellence; Vegetables were represented well, and both cookery and fancy work attracted a large number of excellent entries. Great praise is due to the whole committee, of whom Mr. L. Gilbertson acted as chairman, and Mr. Laslett as treasurer; and to the joint secretaries, Miss E. Piggot and Mr. F. C. Braithwaite, for their efforts on behalf of the show. The judges were: — Mrs. Dr. Hallen, fancy work; Mr. Turner, flowers and fruit: Mr. W. Downs, vegetables and farm produce; and Messrs. Hughes and McKenzie, cookery. Prizes were awarded as follows in the principal sections— Floral Section.—Pot plant (fern): Mrs. Woodcock, 1; Mrs. Knight, 2. Pot plant (foliage): Mrs. Knight, 1.
