TAKAPUNA METHODIST CHURCH. Tmc anniversary of the Takapuna Methodist Church was celebrated yesterday by special services, the preachers beinn the Revs. G. H. Mann, and J. B. Suckling. The church having recently been enlarged, advantage was taken of the occasion to make a special appeal on behalf of the building fund, to which the congregations responded to the extent of £60. The celebrations will be continued on Tuesday evening when a speczial programme of musical and elocutionary items will be rendered. BIBLE IN" SCHOOLS. The Rev. J. Clarkson. representing ihe Bible in State Schools League, addressed a public meeting of Birkenhead residents yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, on the aims and objects of the movement. The Mayor of Birkenhead (Mr. W. Wallace) presided and there was a large number of people present Y.W.C.A. At the Y.W.C.A. Sunday alternoor service held in the Alexandra "Street Hall Miss Stillwell (secretary) speaking of the As sociation's work in Japan, which has tin largest proportion of women workers it the world, said that its beneficial infiuenci was already making itself felt strongly among the factory workers. A large congregation of seamen attended evensong in the Sailors' Mission Hall, Lower Albert Street- which was turned into a church, with Lenten season drapes on the holy table, pulpit and prayer desk. The preacher was the Rev. Mr. Rawnsley who gave an-inspiring address. At the conclusion of the service, the Church of England mUsioner for seamen played favourite hymns assisted by Mr. Laseron of the Blind Institute. The Anglican Bishop of Auckland is to visit the mission on Thursday evening. THEOSOPHY. At the Chamber of Commerce Hall last evening Mr. Thomson gave a very instructive address on man's place and function in nature. The lecturer based his remarks on the hypothesis that man processes in ratio with the execution of his duty to the forms of life lower in the scheme of evolution than himself. At the Auckland Theosophical Society Mr James Morris lectured upon some facte relating to Solomon's Temple; and he hoped that some plain statements by a builder would remove false ideas derived I from popular pr.nte which gave impossible (Versions. * o<»uie "BABYLON." At the Church of Christ lak evening Mr George Aldridge delivered his second address on "Babylon," dealing with its future rebuilding, supremacy, and final overthrow.
