QUEEN OF THE CARNIVAL.

Wa.vganui, Friday. A most unfortunate error occurred in connection with the announcement of the queen of the carnival. Owing to £50 worth of votes for Mrs. McGregor being uncounted, Miss McDonald was declared elected by a majority of over 5000. A recount was demanded, and it is ncrw announced that Mrs. McGregor (who was placed second previously) was in reality queen, having a majority of 460 votes over Miss McDonald. The total votes recorded amounted to 138,044, representing £1150 in twopenny votes. The tickets, wliich confer certain privileges "or! a visitor to the carnival (now under way) were sold at the rate of six for one shilling.
