London, March 12. A brilliant ball recently given in St. Petersburg by the Countess Souvaloff was remarkable for the daring head-dresses worn by the ladies present.

The Princess Orloff, wife of one of the Tsar's aides-de-camp, wore a wig of burnished gold colour, from which stood out a large plume of golden feathers -fixed with emerald and pearl pins.

Mme. Olive, a lady-in-waiting, wore a bright blue wig, supporting, a large butterfly, and Mme. Poloptzeff a green wig with a blue turban and a big black aigrette.

Princess . Gortchakoff , had on a magenta wig, ■■ surmounted by a tall diadem of gold and silver leaves. Princess Belosky, who was formerly a Miss Whittier, of Philadelphia, was dressed in a pink robe with a blue wig.
