CROWN. £3112 FROM 1653 TONS. TOTAL TO DATE, £874,700. Diking the period from January 19 to ; February 28 last, the New Zealand Crown ' Mines, Ltd., crushed and treated 1653t0ns ' for a bullion return of £3112. Compared ' with the two crushing periods of January and February. 1913. when 2358 tons yielded ' £5126, this shows a decrease of £2014, though it has to be noted that the crushing period referred to last year was longer, and the tonnage greater. The total working costs for the period under review (exclusive of development) was £3637. This equals 43.97 shillings per ton, made up as follows :—Mining and transport, 25.92 shillings par ton; milling, 12.40 shillings; miscellaneous charges, including gold duty, 5.65 shillings. In addition, development cost £615, cr 7.43 shillings per ton. VALUES IN JANUARY. The official report from the superintendent and manager of the Waihi mine for the four weeks ended January 17 last, which is just available for publication, stated that at No. 11 level the Dreadnought lode eastward gave the following widths and values :—At 7ft. value £2 9s 7d per ton. 4ft of reef exposed ; at lift, value £2 4s 7d, width 2ft 4in (north part of lode); at 21ft. value £1 18s sd, width 2£ft (north part- of lode); at 30ft, value £1 6s. sft of reef exposed ; at 32ft, value £3 10s sd. width, 3ft ; at 39ft. value, £1 18s, width. lift («>uth part of lode). At No. 10 level, values in the east drive on the Royal lode averaged from lis 3d to £1 Is 3d per ton. At 737 ft in the lode was 33ft wide, worth £1 2s 4d per ton. The values of the Dreadnought lode, south branch, east of 526 ft point, were from £1 16s lOd to £2 3s lid per ton. In the south drive, on the Edward lode, samples taken from sft across the reef assayed, at 443 ft in. £2 10s 6d per lon, and at 453 ft, £1 7s lid. In the crosscut, at 418 ft. from 77ft to 81ft, was quartz worth £2 8s 6d per ton, and from 81ft to 84ft country. f
