Fifteen hundred delegates attended the Tariff Reform League's Conference. Mr. Austen Chamberlain, in a letter to the conference, regretted the Unionist Party's changed attitude, but said they must do the best possible with the present programme.
Speaking at a banquet, Mr. Chamberlain predicted the early return of a Government which would establish Imperial preference, and when once it was established. no earthly power could shake it.
