HOME RULE.
Sir, —In regard to this question it has been suggested that resort to a referendum would be the best solution of the difficulty. Sir! the reasons for which the American Colonies took up arms was trivial as compared with* the reasons for which Ulster is preparing to resist. This being the case, why not take a plebiscite, not only of the British community of voters, but of all those of the Overseas Dominions who enjoy the franchise, to settle the question. The one object of all men of goodwill, now, should be to avoid civil war, a hideous catastrophe that might? even extend to England. Are we not all interested in the avoidance of such a deplorable calamity ? Surely the Dominions should have a pay in what may so vitally affect them. With us it is no question of creed. It is, what effect will this internal dissension have on'the policy of European Anglophobists '! H.J. *
