DISTRICT COMPETITIONS.

NEARtNG' THE END.

The Auckland Cricket Association'!) competitions are now within a fortnight of the end, and the results of to-day's matches will practically decide which club will win the premiership in the first grade. With one down for 94, and only 144 to make for a first inning's victory;, Eden A appear to be in a very safe position against Waitem&ta, and if they do succeed in winning they will have the competition in their hands. Waitemata have however, snatched several gamos out of the fire this season, and much interest is being taken in the result of the present match. North Shoro have 290 to their credit against Parnell, who will commence their first innings to-day, and tho Devonport men should have very little difficulty in winning. Ponsonby are in n safe position in thedr match against Grafton. Last Saturday the latter team scored 176, whilePonsonby replied with 147 for two wickets. If the remaining match between Eden B and University is decided on the first innings Eden B will win, as they are liovT 16 runs to tho good, with three 'more wickets to fall. If they succeed in winning, and Parnell suffers defeat, a very close contest may le expected between those two teams for the questionable distinction of winning "the wooden s;poon."
