London, March 5. A statement was made in the House of Commons yesterday by Mr. F. D. Acland (Parliamentary UnderSecretary for Foreign Affairs), in reply to Mr. W. Joynson Hicks (Unionist M.P. for the Brentford division of Middlesex) to the effect that pourparlers have been opened •with France towards a conference to discuss details regarding the New HebridesNEW ZEALAND SUPPORT. MESSAGE TO MR. MASSEY. Sidney, March 5. Representations have been made to Mr. W. F. Massey (Premier of New Zealand) by the Presbyterian Mission Board of Australia, asking the Dominion to use its influence in supporting the protest to Mr. L. V. Harcourt (Secretary of State for the Colonies) regarding the New Hebrides. Referring to the cable suggestion that Australia should acquire French rights in the New Hebrides by purchase, Mr P. M. Glynn (Minister for External Affairs) said to-day that the Commonwealth was prepared to meet any opportunity of settling the question on lines honourable to the two nations concerned, whether it involved pecuniary or other methods of adjustment.
