Y.M.C.A. DEBATEC.

The first annual meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Literary and Debating Society was held in the Y.M.C.A. buildings, Mr F. H. Leonard occupying the chair. The business of the evening was confined to the election of officers, and the drawing up of a syllabus for the coming season. The members decided to hold meetings fortnightly, also to enter teams for the Athenseum Cup Debates. A varied and interesting syllabus was decided upon, and judging by the increased membership and enthusiasm of the members, the society has every reason to anticipate a successful season. The following officers were elected Pre-adent, Mr. F. H. Leonard; vice-presidents, Mr. Button, Mr. Robt. Laidlaw, Mr. F. wington ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. A. Veale; committee, Messrs. V. C. Harding, H. Burton, H. Stevens, A. A. Buckley, and F. Macßoberts. The secretary was appointed to act as delegate for the society at the meeting of the Auckland Debating and Literary Union.
