THE VICTORIA LEAGUE.

WORK OF THE PAST YEAR.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the Victoria League was held last night at the rooms of the Educational Institute. Shortland Street. The acting-president (Mr. Edward Anderson) presided, there being some 30 members present.

The secretary (Miss E. M. Statham) read the annual report (a summary of which has already been published) The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £8 13s sd.

In moving ihe adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman thanked the executive, the secretary, and the ladies of the branch for their assistance in its work during the year. He congratulated members upon the success of the girls' branch. The committee set up to choose a memorial to fallen soldiers was now engaged on the matter, and in a day or two would probably be able to announce that a design had been selected. When this was done, and provided the Government gave its £1000 grant, they would have a memorial of which the city would be proud. (Applause.) If the Auckland branch of the Victoria League had done nothing else than to arrange for thus perpetuating the memories of the soldiers who had fallen in the Maori Wars it would have justified its existence. (Applause.) Referring to the branch's bureau at the Exhibition, the chairman said that though it might show no profit .on the balance-sheet he was sure it would have resulted, by the end of the year, in increasing the membership. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the election of officers for. the ensuing year was proceeded with, resulting as follows—President, Dr. T. Hope Lewis; secretary, Miss Statham; treasurer, Miss Mowbray; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. M. Myers, M.P-, H. Horton, H. Brett, W. J. Napier, P. Luckie, E. Anderson, E. K. Mulgan, Dr. Bedford, Aire. Edger, and Miss Henderson; council, Messrs. John Reid, F. C Rollett, W. R. Walker, J. W. Tibbs, W. A. Beddoe, Mesdames Lewis, P. Luckie, Colegrove, Devore, Dawes, Edmonds, Culling, Aubin, Napier, 'G. Bloomfield, Averill, Mitchell, McK. Geddes, Misses Morrison and Butler.

At the suggestion of the secretary a resolution was carried recommending the new council to consider the advisability of the various branches of the league holding an annual conference. .

A motion was also carried asking the council to deal with the question of increasing the branch's membership of children.
