SWISS EMIGRANTS.
GOVERNMENT STEPS IN.
London, January 17. The Swiss Government has intimated that it will not allow more than 30 families to emigrate to Australia, and their departure will be conditional on the Commonwealth Government giving a pecuniary guarantee to repatriate them at the end of- three years if necessary. All advertising for emigrants is being done through the Swiss Government, which also selects the emigrants. The Australian Emigration Department will probably ignore the Swiss authorities despite. statements to the contrary.
