ONEHUNGA AFFAIRS.
The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening. Present: Messrs. John Eowe (Mayor). W. Colledge, sen., E. J. Hig-nns I. Lomas. G. L. Taylor, and J. B. Morton.'' The turncock reported having pumned 6.904.748 gallons of water to the reservoir during the past fortnight, a record An extra _ engineer was now employed at the pumping station, whore it was now necessary to keep three shifts going during the 24' hours. ■ °■" The Public Trustee wrote declining the council a request for a loan of £4000 in connection with, the Mangere Bridge contract After considering a complaint from Mr A Creamer relative to the inability to obtain transport to Onehunga on certain Epsom cars, it was decided that the Mayor wait upon Mr J. J. Walklate and endeavou? to secure the concession. ° .The town clerk announced that the trier., nial valuation of the borough was complete and the ratable value of property in the district wa3 (subject to revision) £ 50 799 =„ increase in valuation of £8550 over last year and of £16.078 over the previous triennial valuation. i There were 1306 dwellings and 300 shops in Onehunga compared with 967 »nd 93 respectively three years ago Owing to the dry weather and the' exceptionally heavy demand for water, the water in the well at the pumping station is decreasing in depth, each week. It was decided, on the motion of the Mayor, to suspend the standing orders so that resolution could be earned instructing the engineer Mr H. Metcalfe) to take the necessary steps to have the. present waterworks system connected up with the auxiliary supply at Allen'* Springs. «*«mi a
