CHINESE STATE RELIGION.
PROPOSAL BY PRESIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received January 15. 11.25 p.m.) Pekin, January 14. The President (Yuan Shih-kai) has submitted a proposal to the administrative conference that he should revive the Emperor's sacerdotal office as from New Year's Day. The proposal is believed to be the prelude to the establishment of Confucianism as the State religion.
