UNREST IN INDIA.

BAD INFLUENCES AT WORK. "MOST STARTLING RESULTS POSSIBLE/' POSITION IN SOUTH AFRICA. Times-Sydney Sun Special Cable. London, December 20. In an article commenting on the present situation in India, the Times says that it cannot be too strongly emphasised that there are influences at work which may at any time produce the most startling results in a land which is especially liable to waves of excitement, and which spread like wildfire. A despatch from Durban states that the release from prison of Dr. Ghandi and Polak -is extolled by the leaders of the Indian'movement as a sign of effectiveness of passive resistance, although really it signifies the readiness of the Government to provide the Indians with every facility to expound their grievances. A deputation of employers intends to place before the Government a proposal to introduce native labourers from Mozambique to displace Indians in the plantations.
