A miner named Massie descended a shaft at French's Forest yesterday, and was overcome by the fumes of an explosive. Two of Massie's companions, O'Sullivan and McNaraara, descended the shaft in turn to rescue him, but were, also overcome. A fourth man named Turner, then faced the risk of death. He sent the unconscious men up, and also reached the surface himself. He then collapsed. Masßio subsequently died, but the other men have recovered.
